The Project
The Chicago-based real estate development corporation JDL teamed up with TurningArt to provide artwork for Halsted Flats, a new apartment complex designed for professionals in Chicago’s bustling Lakeview neighborhood. Just a few blocks from Lake Michigan, the modern luxury building features an abundance of amenities, including a fitness center, heated pool, grilling area, and sundeck with landscaped gardens.
JDL's goal for the artwork was to echo the building’s fun and contemporary atmosphere, while helping to maintain a space that current residents love coming home to, and prospective tenants are excited to be a part of.
From Mari, the Art Advisor
“The team at JDL wanted to create an aesthetic for Halsted Flats that was young, modern and fresh, while also being a bit bold and playful. Anticipating frequent use of the building’s common spaces, the property management wanted artwork that resonated with building residents. To achieve an authentic experience with each rotation, we use TurningArt’s community voting software for residents to weigh in on their favorite pieces for the next collection.
We've found success incorporating a lot of local Chicago art and some fun Pop Art elements. Highlighitng local works even led to a serendipitous encounter with one of our artists, Adam Velaquez, who saw his work on display at Halsted Flats while visiting a friend who lives in the building.”
From Yale, The Executive Vice President & Chief Investment Officer at JDL
“When we opened our newest apartment high-rise, Halsted Flats, we were looking to incorporate a best-in-market design aesthetic. TurningArt listened closely to our needs and put together a fantastic artwork program that complemented our vision. Our residents have loved the look since day one. I’m looking forward to working with TurningArt again on future projects.”
