Rooted in Place: Reflecting Boston Through Art at Bain & Company

When Bain & Company moved its headquarters to a new office overlooking Boston Common, the art program was designed to celebrate New England and its distinctive character. Each floor represents a different facet of the local community, creating opportunities for creative interpretations and unexpected details throughout the building, from a hidden speakeasy to original sculptures. The finished collection feels uniquely local and personal while remaining thoughtfully integrated into the corporate environment.

From Helen Brechlin, the Art Advisor at TurningArt:

“This collection was a true tribute to Boston and its local artists. A strong sense of place guided the selection of every artwork, with each floor exploring a different theme: the Stage, the Gallery, the Stadium, the Cabin, the Forest, the Shore, the Harbor, and the Common. The collection also celebrates diversity, both through the artists represented and the imagery throughout the collection.

The process was highly collaborative. The team at Vocon, led by Design Director Lauren Dennison, was the creative force behind the building’s design and contributed initial artwork ideas for us to consider. We also worked closely with Bain's team to ensure the collection felt authentically local and reflective of the company’s values. Several pieces from the previous office were incorporated as well, including a series of small paintings of cups that were reframed and elegantly installed in the new cafe space.Final_Bain_3Final_Bain_6 (2)

The finished collection feels cohesive while incorporating a wide range of styles. On the “Boston Common” floor, for example, a secret speakeasy sits behind a hidden wall. The space features moody green tones and rustic decor, with a gallery wall serving as its focal point. The eclectic curation brings together watercolor postcards of Boston, collected antiques, bespoke framing, TurningArtist prints, and historic drawings to create a distinctly vintage New England feel.

On the “Harbor” floor, the Vocon team envisioned a rope sculpture for the reception area, leading us to source a work by Windy Chien. We also incorporated a painting by Pamela Kogan made from reclaimed ship sails, reinforcing the harbor theme through both imagery and materiality. The collection features original and commissioned works by local artists including Niho Kozuru, Frantz Lexy, Morgan Dyer, and MOSH Studios.

It was a pleasure to collaborate with the team at Bain, who provided valuable artistic direction throughout the process. Their enthusiasm for the unique details, from the hidden speakeasy to found objects and vintage pieces, created opportunities to make the collection feel personal and one-of-a-kind.”Final_Bain_7Sculpture office art

From Sara Cruz Lass and Angela West, Directors of Global Real Estate at Bain & Company

“After moving our headquarters to a new location overlooking Boston Common, we were looking for a unified art program to bring the space to life. We also had a number of pieces from our previous office that we wanted to incorporate, which TurningArt integrated into one cohesive collection, bringing a familiar feel to our new environment.

The entire building is centered around celebrating the local community, with each floor featuring its own distinct theme. It was important to us that the collection serve as a visual celebration of New England while highlighting the work of local artists. With Bain's roots originating in Boston, we particularly valued TurningArt’s local approach, deep understanding of the surrounding community, and connections to regional artists and talent.”Boston corporate artArt for Boston officesFinal_Bain_13
