In conjunction with Square Roots Collective, the TurningArt team aimed to contribute to Kennett Square's vibrant arts community by renovating and reimagining an existing motel property into a unique art and hospitality experience.
They sought to connect the motel to the vibrant local culture, making it a true celebration of regional artists and local identity. An extensive artist recruitment process resulted in selecting 12 TurningArt artists and 2 hyper-local Kennett Square artists, creating 14 distinct and immersive rooms.
From Helen, the Art Advisor
"As a project, Artelo has always been more than a hotel. It's a community-driven project dedicated to engaging local artists, contributing to our vibrant arts community, and supporting community initiatives. It was important to us to curate art that told stories that, from the artists' individual perspectives, would celebrate both Kennett Square and themes true to our community. We wanted the artist roster to be both diverse and regional, range in styles and perspectives, and share a real desire to collaborate.
TurningArt delivered on that vision. Their extensive network and experience with local artists made a significant impact, as did their project management expertise. We reviewed over 30 artist portfolios and selected a diverse group of 14 artists, ensuring that each room at Artelo tells its own unique story. TurningArt was more than a connector: they were an engaged collaborator and contributor. I'm excited for opportunities to work together!"
