Abstract Murals pay Homage to a Building's Unique Heritage

The Project

Boston-based Beacon Capital Partners develops, owns, and transforms buildings into headquarters, offices, and labs for the world’s most progressive thinkers and innovative builders. A centerpiece of their life science portfolio, Southline Boston is a 700,000 SF adaptive reuse of The Boston Globe's longtime headquarters and printing press. TurningArt worked with Beacon to curate an art program that reflects the groundbreaking work that took place within this space and serves as inspiration for the continued innovation happening at Southline today.

"TurningArt was brought in to strategically integrate large-scale art moments into the building experience.

On the ground level, tenants and visitors are greeted with an abstract interpretation of the labyrinth of moving parts it took to print a newspaper. The artist looked at still images of The Globe’s press to mimic some of the exact angles and turns the newspapers had to travel. On the roof deck, an expansive mural uses color blocking to reveal a message acknowledging the building’s past and pointing toward the endless possibilities that the reimagined space now provides.

Working with the artists on site, I felt there was a genuine connection between everyone. We were all building toward a common goal of creating beautifully unique moments within Southline and the result is just that.”
